Terms of Service
Last updated: May 8, 2026
1. Agreement
By creating an account or using Back Tax Cleanup ("the Service", "we", "us", "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What we do
Back Tax Cleanup helps individuals and small businesses organize financial records, identify deductions, and prepare back-tax filings. Every return is reviewed by a U.S.-licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) before submission. We are not affiliated with the Internal Revenue Service or any state taxing authority.
3. Eligibility and account security
You must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. resident or U.S. business owner to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate, complete information. You are required to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your account and to keep your credentials secure. Notify us immediately at security@backtaxcleanup.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
4. Your responsibilities
- Provide truthful and complete financial documents and information.
- Review and confirm your books and tax filings before signing or filing.
- Only connect financial accounts that you own or are authorized to access.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local tax laws.
5. Bank connections via Plaid
If you choose to link a bank or credit-card account, the connection is provided by Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"). By linking an account through the Service, you:
- Authorize Plaid to access account information on your behalf, including account and routing numbers, balances, account holder name, and historical transactions;
- Authorize us to receive that information from Plaid and to use it solely to deliver the Service (book reconstruction, transaction categorization, deduction identification, identity verification, and fraud prevention);
- Acknowledge that you have read and agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy; and
- Confirm that you own or are authorized to grant access to the linked account.
We never see, receive, or store your bank login credentials — they are entered directly into Plaid. You may disconnect any linked account at any time from Account → Connected accounts.
6. Fees and payment
Pricing is per tax year and disclosed before checkout. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Fees are non-refundable once a CPA has begun work on your case, except where required by law.
7. CPA review and limitations
A licensed CPA reviews every return prior to submission. Recommendations and tax outcomes depend on the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide. We do not guarantee any specific tax outcome, refund, or IRS resolution result. Nothing on the Service constitutes legal advice.
8. Automated tools
We use automated software, including machine-learning tools, to organize transactions and surface potential deductions. A licensed CPA verifies all material conclusions before any filing is finalized. AI providers are contractually prohibited from training on your data.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to access another user's account or data; (c) reverse engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service; (d) submit false, fraudulent, or misleading information; or (e) link accounts you do not own or are not authorized to access.
10. Intellectual property
All software, content, branding, and design on the Service are owned by Back Tax Cleanup or its licensors. You retain ownership of the financial data you upload. You grant us a limited, revocable license to use your data solely to provide the Service to you.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except as required by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific tax result will be achieved.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.
13. Termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting support@backtaxcleanup.com. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that are used for fraudulent or illegal activity. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., 7, 10, 11, 12, 14) will survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or in-app at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
